About the practice

A small Phoenix bookkeeping practice with a long client list

Desert Ledger Bookkeeping was founded in 2016 by Elizabeth Williams after eleven years of in-house accounting work. The idea was simple: give owner-operated businesses the same quality of monthly close that mid-market companies take for granted, without the mid-market price tag.

Elizabeth Williams

Owner & Lead Bookkeeper · QuickBooks Online Advanced ProAdvisor · Xero Certified Advisor

Elizabeth spent eleven years managing accounting operations for construction and professional-services companies in the Phoenix metro before opening Desert Ledger in 2016. She has closed somewhere north of three thousand monthly periods and has a low tolerance for reports nobody reads.

She still personally reviews every client file before it is delivered. Clients with more complex payroll or inventory work are supported by a small team of three contract bookkeepers, all US-based and background-checked, each working under the same close checklist.

  • QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified ProAdvisor (renewed annually)
  • Xero Certified Advisor and Gusto Partner
  • Member, American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers

How we work

Four commitments we put in every engagement letter

These are not marketing lines. They are written into the scope document you sign, and we credit fees when we miss them.

Close by the 10th

Your period is closed and reports delivered by the tenth business day of the following month, every month.

Reply within 1 business day

Emails answered by your named bookkeeper, not a shared inbox. Most replies land the same afternoon.

No surprise invoices

One flat monthly fee agreed in writing. Out-of-scope work is quoted and approved before anyone starts it.

Plain-English answers

If a report needs an accounting degree to interpret, we rewrite it. Ask us anything twice; we will not make you feel silly.

Where we are

Rooted in Phoenix, working across the country

Our office sits at 568 Lombard Street in Phoenix, Arizona, a short drive from the state capitol complex. Local clients are welcome to come in for quarterly reviews; everyone else meets us by video.

Arizona’s small-business economy is what shaped this practice — trades, clinics, restaurants, boutique agencies, and a lot of family-owned operations that outgrew a shoebox of receipts. That experience travels well, and today we support clients in eighteen states.

Milestones

A short history

2016 — The practice opens

Elizabeth registers Desert Ledger Bookkeeping LLC in Arizona and takes on nine clients in the first year, mostly trades contractors referred by a former employer.

2018 — Cloud-only

The practice moves entirely to cloud accounting and a secure document portal, retiring paper file transfers for good.

2020 — Relief programme support

Fifty-two clients supported through PPP and EIDL documentation, with dedicated tracking accounts set up for forgiveness reporting.

2023 — Payroll practice added

Formal payroll support launched after two years of informal help, with a Gusto partnership and quarterly filing reconciliation built into the close checklist.

2026 — Today

Three hundred and twelve businesses supported to date, an average client relationship of 4.7 years, and a deliberately capped intake of six new clients a quarter.
